Suriname; France donates field materiel to Army

France, through the command of the Forces Armées in Guyane, donated field materiel to the Suriname National Army (Nationaal Leger). In addition, the European country completed the adaptation of the firing range of the Ayoko barracks.

The material delivered included field belts, magazine holders, among other accessories, “to complete the transfer of Famas rifles in September 2023.” On that occasion, as reported by Infodefensa.com, France donated weapons to Suriname, including Famas assault rifles, caliber 5.56×45 and ammunition, valued at one million euros.

On the other hand, a detachment of the 9th Marine Regiment of the Armée de Terre, based in Cayenne (French Guiana) deployed a detachment of more than 70 troops and 19 vehicles to the Surinamese military base of Ayoko (Savannah).

The French military completed the clearing of the firing range of ammunition and other unexploded ordnance, as well as the installation of a new operating system to adapt it to modern standards, a process that began more than two years ago. In addition, they conducted target practice with the Surinamese military and provided instruction in tactics, weapons maintenance, sports, combat first aid, and engineering techniques.
