Sweden; Spanish shipyard cuts first still for new MMP vessels.

Spanish shipyard Armon has begun building the two multi-role vessels commissioned by the Swedish Navy earlier this year. The shipbuilder is already working on cutting the first steel plates of the new vessels in its workshop in Navia (Asturias).

Swedish Navy to Receive New Work Vessels From Spanish Company

The two new ships will replace HMS Pelikanen and HMS Furusund and will arrive in the Swedish Armed Forces in 2027 and 2028. With a length of 50 meters, the vessels will improve support to other units in tasks such as torpedo recovery, underwater and logistical work, and will also provide additional diving capacity.

The multipurpose vessels purchased from Armon correspond to one of the three models that FMV has selected to support the Swedish Armed Forcesin the development of maritime mobile logistics. The other two are port tugs and pushers, the latter intended for various types of maritime maintenance services.

The purchase of these multipurpose vessels is the second FMV has made in its plan to modernise the Swedish logistics fleet after the acquisition of four tugboats that the country will receive this year.
