Turkey; SSB to launch missile Frigate tender to local shipyards

Bidders must have a local shipyard or cooperate with one and have experience in a previous project for the country’s Navy.

Turkish authorities have announced a bidding process for the purchase of three new frigates that, according to the Turkish Defense Industries Presidency (SSB),will have a higher domestic manufacturing rate than previous vessels in its Milgem program. Thus, according to the head of the SSB, Ismail Demir, the country continues in its goal of achieving a “totally independent” defense industry. Turkey, in addition, is in full momentum of its naval power, he added.

The companies that will be eligible for this contest must have a shipyard in the country or cooperate with one. You are also required to have carried out or executed a design or construction project of some military surface platform with the SSB or to be a partner of companies that meet this condition.

According to Demir’s statements, collected by the government news agency Anadolu (AA),”our domestic industrial enterprises have the capacity and ability to build ships that have no equivalents worldwide and at competitive prices.” With this strength, he added, “we are taking another important step in project Milgem,”referring to the national military ship program that has already provided Turkey with ships for its naval force. What is opening up now is, in particular, the “bidding process for the sixth, seventh and eighth vessels”, whose manufacturing rate “will be much higher”.
