Citing information published by the Germany Newspaper website “Spiegel”, Germany will deliver a company of Leopard 2A6 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) to Ukraine. The number of tanks in a company can vary depending on the specific military organization and its tanks’ intended use. In general, a tank company in the US Army typically has around 14 tanks, while a tank company in the Russian Army can have up to 32 tanks.
The Leopard 2A6 tanks that Germany will donate to Ukraine will come from the military inventory of the German army. According to the military balance 2021, the German army has a total of 245 main battle tanks including 225 Leopard 2A5 and Leopard 2A6 tanks.
Germany’s political decision to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine demonstrates the commitment of the German government to strengthening its support for Ukraine in the face of the invasion by Russian forces that began in February 2022.
