According to information published by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation “DR” on 19 January 2023, during a press conference that was held on January 19, 2023, Danish Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen announced that the 19 CAESAR 155mm 8×8 wheeled self-propelled howitzers ordered to the French Company Nexter systems will be donated to Ukraine.
In May 2017, Denmark signed a contract with the French company Nexter Systems for the acquisition of 15 CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers in 8×8 configuration, and in October 2019, Denmark approved another contract to purchase four additional CAESAR howitzers.
Citing the information from Danish Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jense, the French-made CAESAR 8×8 howitzers are not yet delivered to the Danish army but will be sent to Ukraine. The decision to deliver the Danish CAESAR howitzers to Ukraine is a response to the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces in terms of artillery weapons.
Currently, the Ukrainian army has already received from France 18 CAESAR in 6×6 configuration and six more CAESAR howitzers will be supplied in the next few weeks.
