Ukraine; US asks Romania to transfer its Patriots systems to Ukraine

According to information reported by Defense Romania website on May 7, 2024, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, during his official visit to the United States, confirmed ongoing negotiations regarding the potential transfer of a Romanian Patriot air defense missile system to Ukraine. This move comes amidst Ukraine’s urgent need for advanced defense air defense systems to counter Russian air attacks.

Romanian President Iohannis emphasized the critical nature of these discussions during his engagements with U.S. officials, including President Biden. “There is a pressing demand for advanced systems in Ukraine, and we have been approached to provide support with our Patriot systems. We are open to assisting, but Romania’s own defense capabilities must remain uncompromised,” Iohannis stated.
