Uruguay; New chief of defense staff

General Gustavo Fajardo has been appointed the new Chief of the Defense Staff of Uruguay (Esmade), replacing General Marcelo Montaner, who went into retirement upon reaching the maximum age allowed in service. The inauguration ceremony was led by the President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, who was accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Javier García, and other senior civil and military authorities.

Fajardo belongs to the Cavalry Weapon and has held various positions in the National Army, including the direction of the Military Institute of Higher Studies (IMES). Likewise, he served as head of Division IV and commanded the General Reserve of the Army. He was also a military attaché in the United States.
